Once again thank you for the encouraging words and well wishes. I am 34 yrs old and I have never seen this level of protest or blatant racism. I watched the first of three memorials for George Floyd today where Rev. Al Sharpton gave the eulogy and he announced that 57 years ago on Aug 28 Dr. King gave his "I Have a Dream" Speech and that on this Aug 28th 2020 there is another march that will take place on the steps of the Lincoln memorial. What am I witnessing?
There is also new information in the Ahmaud Aubery case. The gunman called him the N-Word after shooting him according to GBI investigations, CNN reports. Really this is what we feared the most. And white guys in here think it is okay to use that word in any context instead of abbreviating. We now have CNN and Fox news and to hear how Fox spins everything about race and denies systemic racism to any extent is unbelievable, esp Tucker Carlson, OMG. To make matters worse the decision was announced to tear down the Confederate monument of Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, but the Virginia Senate Republicans are saying that this decision is not good for Virginia because it needs to be contextualized not erased. Wait a minute contextualized by what? The Lost Cause document. They like the context that is currently has which is why they have not done anything for however long is has been up.
I am even more resolved to obtain my degree in African-American History/Studies and I do not care how long it takes to do so. Watching the news these last few days I have heard of a term called 'qualified immunity'. This is what makes it impossible for police to be prosecuted and it was strengthened by the United States Supreme Court. I digress.
Thank you for listening and the encouraging words. Take care, protest only in the daytime and remember that even though racism is the virus that is receiving the most publicity that Covid-19 is still out there.
