Thank you Shannon, Regina, Emily, Grandma, Elise, Jean R., Wendy, Mary and Anonymous for thinking of us, and for your words of kindness and encouragement.
Thoughts from the prison world.
I try to keep in mind how truly blessed I am, to appreciate the things so easily taken for granted, and I think I do pretty well at seeing 'the half full cup'. I just want to comment about two things I hope can somehow make its way to the public.
First of all, 'what we hear' coming from DOC Director Annette Chambers-Smith according to some reports is that it is the inmates who are responsible for infecting staff members with the corona virus. It should be made very clear to the public that the corona virus was brought in to us, which was in relation to poor management response to the corona virus by the Administration. Remember the comments of Dr. Amy Acton from the governor's briefings. Also, check out Facebook sites 'Inmates Support Ohio', and 'Ohio Prisons Justice League'.
The second thing is, when reporting about the death's of inmates, who died from corona virus, why is it necessary to give any information at all about what their crimes were? I am not alone in seeing this as insensitive and dehumanizing, it is like saying 'Well, they only got what they deserved anyway, it is no great loss'. Haven't they been punished enough? I wonder how the families of these inmates feel about this?
Thanks again to you all that are our 'lifelines' in the free world. Till next time, Peace.
