Friends, 8.8%, that is the percentage of my life I have spent incarcerated after having completed five years of my Life with the possibility of parole after twenty years sentence. You math wizzes can figure out my age easily enough - y/x= z, where y the number of years served, x is the current age, z is the percentage of time, solve for x. A little basic algebra never hurt anyone! Extra credit if you can identify the mathematical principle that makes the percentage of time increase, as age and time served increase by the same number of years. 8.8% of a lifetime seems a small insignificant value, until it's yours. I reflect on what I would have done with that time, would I have squandered it on selfish pursuits, not giving it to my family or helping others? I would give my soul to do either of those things now. No blame to place, I did this to myself, and will make the best of whatever time God blesses me with.
